About Glen Carter-Varney
At the age of 12, Glen Carter-Varney gained her Associate Diploma and was offered a scholarship to study piano under Waldemar Seidel at the Melbourne University Conservatorium of Music.
She went on to study composition with John Ingram and Bernard de Oliviera, music theory under J. A. Steele, and was awarded conservatorium exhibitions on two occasions during this time. In the ’70s, she would go on to study with Norah Newby at the Royal Academy of London, where she received her LRAM (Licentiate of the Royal Academy of Music).

Career
In the ’60s and ’70s, Glen played in a duo with her then-husband Jack Carter, and regularly appeared on Channel 9’s Bobby Limb’s The Sound of Music, as well as In Melbourne Tonight hosted by Phillip Brady and Graeme Kennedy. The piano duo were also finalists in Australian TV’s talent show of the time, Showcase, and they also did live radio broadcasts for the ABC from its Sydney studios.
They were offered a recording contract by W & G Records in Melbourne where they cut two LP recordings and were also invited to perform in the USA.

Glen has been a music teacher for many years, passing on her knowledge to younger students and musicians. She has been a piano examiner for both the Australian Music Examinations Board and the Australian Guild of Music Education and has adjudicated numerous eisteddfods and other competitions over the years, including the Sydney Eisteddfod, held in the Opera House.
